Meet Cassie, a San Diego art student and Ember Dreamer. Cassie dreams of becoming an art therapist, using creative expressions like painting, drawing and sculpture to aid individuals in the process of grieving, healing and discovering freedom. She is a dear friend to the Ember Arts family and an inspiration to all who know her. Cassie teaches us that healing from a trauma or going through a stressful season can look messy, but that with creativity, self love, and discipline in actions, that beauty will surly arise.
"When I create a painting, it always seems to turn out different than I had intended. And, I find that the most tragic mistakes, more often than not, make for the most beautiful paintings.
The artistic process and healing process are much alike. In moments of stress, and seasons of great grief, I take to painting to help find healing.
For me, undergoing trauma that could not be undone was a lot like working with a painting that someone had spilled their lunch on. Faced with an ugly painting and a hurting heart, the need at that moment for me was not to cast blame or discard the painting but, instead, work with what had happened.
I do not think painting is for everyone. But I do believe that creating is for everyone because the creative process helps us understand the healing process.
How will you create and search for healing and truth? Know that you are free to make mistakes and struggle through the creative process and that within you is a strength and ability to create something beautiful."
